At Venn Farm we are passionate about small bale hay. Our grasses are a mix of Rye, Meadow and Timothy, aimed at the discerning equestrian market. With over 30 years experience with HOYS level ponies we know how important it is to every equestrian what they feed to their horses and ponies.

Horses are by nature, grazing animals and require huge amounts of quality forage to maintain a healthy gut, this is the same for a Derby winning racehorse or a Happy Hacker. That’s why we invest the time and effort to correctly balance our small bale hay - what we sell our customers is what we feed our own competition ponies and broodmares.

We offer our customers three methods of buying Venn Farm Small Bale Hay every year, the first and most cost effective is straight from the field, whereby they collect it themselves and have it mechanically loaded straight from the field. The second is delivered, this as the name suggests is when the Venn Farm Team, deliver the small bale hay to the customer and either stack it for the customer, or leave it for the customer to stack. The final option which in these space lean times is proving very popular is barn stored, with barn stored our customers take advantage of the high volume lower prices and have their order barn stored at Venn Farm for 6 or 12 months. They can they “call off” batches of their order as and when they need it.

Our Mission

To produce high quality small bale hay, meticulously planned for and executed with precision; whilst using the fewest number of chemicals possible and providing our equine customers with excellent service.

Let us make hay while the sun shines.

What We've Achieved

  • Leave something for the environment; as part of our Wilder not Wilding philosophy we don’t mow the outer two metres of our hay fields. This leaves homes for the wildlife at Venn Farm, including wildflowers, moths, butterflies and the resident dormice.

  • Introduction of sisal twine; as part of our commitment to reducing our impact on the planet, we have begun to introduce sisal baler twine in favour of conventional plastic baler twine. The reasons for this were two fold, the first was wanting to use a more natural product that had less impact on the Earth than a petrochemical derived twine; the second was snapping strength. The majority of horse owners use baler twine to tie up their animals and this comes from their hay bales. It’s used because traditionally it would snap before a metal ring or lead rope and prevent the horse from injuring itself. Unfortunately in recent years this is no longer the case, with baler twine having to withstand modern baling machines, it has become too strong for horses to break in an emergency.

  • Moisture matters; the introduction of electronic moisture monitoring during the baled drying process, means that hay is only put away to be stored when it reaches 12% moisture. The optimum moisture level for barn stored hay.

  • Three methods of delivery; our customers benefit from three methods of buying Venn Farm Small Bale Hay every year, the first and most cost effective is straight from the field, whereby they collect it themselves. The second is delivered, this as the name suggests is when the Venn Farm Team, deliver the small bale hay to the customer and either stack it for you, or leave it for you to stack. The final option which in these space lean times is proving very popular is barn stored, with barn stored our customers take advantage of the high volume lower prices and have their order barn stored at Venn Farm for 6 or 12 months. • NB Remember to leave all “new hay” at least 6 weeks before feeding and to mix with “old hay” gradually.
